Maternal/infant health and research – community action – have been the driving force for the development of IDIP´s activities.
The first recommendations were issued during the first meeting of the International Advisory Committee in 2003. One of those recommendations was to concentrate the efforts on three main areas: Nutrition, Immunology and Infections.
New areas consolidated after two years of research: fetal and perinatal health, environment and health, and program impact evaluation.
The future creation of an infant health observatory based on the follow-up of healthy children from birth to adolescence will allow the development of new research lines.
The process of implementation and consolidation of research lines is at the same time a process of integration that depends on the researchers´chances of development, the common interest in research subjects and financing.
The current lines of research consolidated each of the mentioned aspects.
